MADDIE MOON

MUSICIAN & SONGWRITER

BIO

I was 5 years old when all this started, in Merida, Venezuela (my native country)  since I first saw those beautiful girls on tv at my grandparents house, I tried to imitate them with my mother's hairbrush while wearing my favourite pajamas adorned with a ribbon.

My family never realised that music was my dream, I started playing my grandfather's guitar at the age of 5 , everything sounded terrible until I was 13 years old when my father gaved me his guitar, I took it home and with much enthusiasm I began to learn my favourite songs from Aerosmith, Guns n Roses and many more bands of the time, I identified myself as a misunderstood rocker. Little by little I had less time to practice and because of problems at home I quit, I was a child with many ideas in mind, I wanted to paint, have friends and fit in a school that was clearly not for me.

At the age of 15 I decided to enrol myself in the music school of my city together with a friend, that's when I realised that music was what I wanted to do, even though for my family being a musician meant giving musical language classes to high school kids, I wanted to go ahead with my dream, the one I had since I was 5 years old.

I studied 2 and a half years, learned to read music, played the guitar and sneaked into the big room where the grand piano was, playing until the next student arrived to practice for some conservatory exam. There I met the love of my life (my husband) and continued to cultivate my style and my love for Nightwish, Lacrimosa, Epica and other bands, at that time I wanted to be a lyrical singer and have my own symphonic metal band, which didn't happened.

After a few failed attempts I met the music of Melanie Martinez at the age of 17, her music brought me to where I am now, her singing style is my main influence along with her conceptual music and visuals, she inspired me to be this kind of storyteller, to talk about the darkest and the lightest of life.

After emigrating and going through the worst anxiety and depression crisis of my life, being on medication and being unhappy, I met God and also realised that my path in life was to make music, started listening to Indie music and falling in love with the music of artist such as: Dayglow, Boy Pablo, Clairo, The Marias etc.

Participating in the Melanie Martinez contest  "Play Date" and having 1M streams on Spotify with my cover, made me realise that, I didn't wanted to keep doing covers but I wanted to focus on developing myself as a songwriter, producer, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist so I decided to release my first single "Fairies" with the help of my husband, my mentor, who taught me how to produce music using Ableton, I set out to fulfil my dreams and taught myself to play piano, to sing better, and within a year to create my first EP "a place for emotional humans" in which I deal with issues such as depression, attachment to the people we love, the difficulty of making friends and how being a highly sensitive person in this days and era is very hard, I wanted to express how I felt in a noisy world, in a little empathetic and selfish place where the main objective is self-satisfaction and mockery towards others, but despite all the bad things, to transmit that everything gets better at the end and that even if there is some bad people in the world they can never take away our inner light if we cultivate it day by day with prayer and love , being better humans every day.

My mom is one of the most important beings in my life and she was going through a lot, she is a survivor of domestic and child abuse so she really needed to hear what she means to a lot of the ones who love her. I wanted this song to be about all of the beautiful roses out there, all of the mothers, women's and sisters who have gone through pretty rough times and needed to hear how amazing they are :)
